Biography - Howard Maylor

I am a Landscape Photographer living in Regional Victoria. My photography is based on my environment and shows it in a view that is generally overlooked. Miniature, surreal landscapes that appear much bigger than life, hidden scenes showing features of the landscape from a different viewpoint are examples of my work.

I have Advanced Diploma in Photography (Art) at photography Studies College in Melbourne. As part of the final assesmnet I have developed a series of work title "Curious Country" about the remnants of mining activities in Central Victoria during the 1850's showing a beautiful but surreal landscape that is gradually disappearing due to the forces of Nature.

I developed an interest in photography in the 1960' and have photographed landscapes, events and travel since that time. I design and developed web sites and many of my recent photography has been used in these promoting my town and local events. Local recognition has been obtained by my web sites and the photographing local events that I undertake a community volunteer.

My "Art" photography has been influenced by photographers such as Thomas Werde and Michael Reich who also look at the landscape from a different view point. Slinkachu has also had an influence where I have created small models of buildings and flora that placed in the landscape add a sense of scale and questioning.

I intend to continue my "Curious" theme and develop a body of work showing our often unseen environment in a creative and interesting way and to exhibit my work to a wider audience.
